عد محافظة الأحساء واحدة من مناطق الإستيطان البشري التاريخية على مر العصور، ولعل الإكتشافات الأثرية التي تزيد علي خمسة آلاف سنة قبل الميلاد خير شاهدا على ذلك.

تتميز محافظة الأحساء بكونها مركزا تاريخيا للتبادل التجاري (سوق هجر) لوقوعها علي خط القوافل التجارية القديم او ما يعرف بطريق البخور أو التوابل ومنها تنقل التجارة جنوبا الي اسيا وافريقيا وشمالا لبلاد الشام والرافدين و قد أهتم الرسول صلى الله عليه و سلم أهتماما بالغا بأهل الخليج عامة و أهل البحرين ( الاحساء) خاصة ، ادراكا منه بأهمية هذه المنطقة لما تتمتع به من موقع جغرافي في شرق شبه الجزيرة العربيه، ووضع اقتصادي.

تبلغ مساحة محافظة الأحساء حوالي 379 ألف كم2 بما يمثل 20 % من مساحة المملكة ، ويقدر عدد سكان الأحساء حوالي 1.3 مليون نسمة موزعين على 10 مدن رئيسية وأكثر من 80 قرية وهجرة بنسبة 5% من سكان المملكة ، ويتركز داخل واحة الأحساء ما يقرب من 96.3% من سكان محافظة الاحساء .

 Al-Ahsa lies to the east of the Kingdom; to the north lie the provinces of Baqaiq, Niayriah, and the Ulya Village; to the east lie the Arab Gulf, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, to the south lie Saltante of Uman, Yemen, and Najran and to the west lie Riyadh and Najran.

Al-Ahsa is considered one of the historical residential areas across ages. The archeological discoveries which are older than five thousand years B C are the best witness. Al-Ahsa is characterized by being a historical center for exchanging commercial goods since it is located on the ancient caravan commercial route known as the Spice or Incense Route; the trade then moves southwards to Asia and Africa and northwards to Mesopotamia and the Levant. The total area of Al-Ahsa is 379000 square kilometers representing 20% of the Kingdom's area

-        96.3% of the Al-Ahsa population live inside Al-Ahsa oasis.
